It seems most of the determinations are done by pre-programed software based on pre-feeds, although a blog shall be evaluated by scaling its contents and compatibility with the needs of the community in this room or any other.
I appreciate the clever test and meaningful pinpoint FatHead carried out. That also explains many earlier questions how the charts are determined which was never clearly answered by fuzz team. It's a genuine point not to allow self comment.
Great approach and clever process the Fathead picked proves that there's no justifiable system of processing a blog before rating it.
Hope fuzz techs come up with solutions for deficiencies in this room soon, as the community is getting bigger and bigger and there would be a time that small deficiencies would mean great negative points and lead to demotion of the site rather than promotion.

A proper blog rating system should scalable to the number of users actually posting.
It should be sophisticated enough to take into consideration comments and posts per user in a day.
It should directly tie into the Top 10 bloggers. [However, just because there is a top blog by a blogger does not necessarily make that blogger a "top" blogger. This is not me being pompass this is a power law.]
The algorithm should allow for a weighting system to be developed progressively.
For instance, As SomeUser posts a comment that comment carries a value of 1. If SomeUser posts another comment within a short amount of time or to the same post. The SomeUsers comments should begin to lose value. i.e. 1 post is 1 pt. 2 immediate or same comment posts @post = .5 point [taking away the original post 1 point value]. 3 comments @ worth .33 and so on.
SomeUsers total comment value would be 1 pt total regardless of the blog entry longevity. This immediate "comment depreciation" will allow for better writing of blogs and for diversity of readership.
Guess I'm feelin' a bit testy myself this morning. Dear Friends, cheer me up and cheers to you all. TCC
RE:
It's not the first time that these topics are brought up....more and more artists/fans are leaving fuzz....seriously: I do believe the situation is dramatic and needs some immediate action. You know that I do love fuzz very much AND I DONT WANT THIS PLACE TO DIE!!!!!
A very few active users are left on fuzz and all of them seem to be pretty upset or at least pretty concerned at the moment!
That's it - we are complaining because WE ARE FIGHTING FOR THIS COMMUNITY!!!!
Cheers,
B*
I feel that no matter what team does there will be people who won't be happy. i.e the ones who aren't at the top but think they should be.
I mean, who really cares about their rank anyway? I'm beginning to think that the blog ranking/chart is there for people to be able to massage their own egos. "hey look at me I'm better or more popular than you...."
I admit it used to bother me but then it occurred to me that maybe I didn't belong high in the music chart because I WASN'T GOOD ENOUGH! The sooner people realise that the better.
It's a brilliant site. Leave it alone!
[bDear Tim says; “It’s a brilliant site. Leave it alone!” And I say: “We can’t leave it alone because we live here.” Last.fm didn’t attract me, no matter how big and complicated it is, it just didn’t attract me and I never did this much in there because I felt better in this room. We are a community now no matter how big or small and it’s something that has already occurred and can’t be ignored. I’ve always done my best in every society that I lived in whether on board a ship, at home, in my town or in a web society. In fact, I do criticize when I think it can help the promotion of this society not mine, then of course its promotion favors all members.. As D* says: “That's it - we are complaining because WE ARE FIGHTING FOR THIS COMMUNITY!!!!”
Back to another point of your comment; dear Tim you’re top 32 and I’m sure it means a little for you if not much, because the least it can do for you or anyone else is to impel ahead and make you try to do better, so do you really think that abolishing all rankings is a remedy ? Besides, how much time you’ve spent to get there, not meaning that you did it all merely to get into top 50, but you’ve done a lot to talk to others through your artwork, comments, blogs, etc., do you still think abolishment is the action needed or some repair kit will do better.
If a person is ail what we do? Take a therapy to heal or make him/her vanish?
I guess it’s kind of taking serious part in promoting fuzz what we’re doing right now by bringing into notices of fuzz folks the deficiencies that may even be hidden to them.
Dear TCC says; “I think we should leave it to the judgment of the readers of any particular blog whether the blog and the blogger are a worthwhile read notwithstanding the ranking algorithm at work [whatever that may be].” I’m quite alike and really try to set a time to read yours, FH’s, those from D*, etc, but do you believe that I came to know FH by its blog ranking and the very famous one for which I posted an objection that if a recommendation is considered a blog …?
Then dear TCC the ranking matters and the simplest fact is that it works like a search engine just a bit different that I don’t even need a search and the main pages of the site presents me top ten artists, bloggers, blogs, etc, therefore, no doubt such ranking must be based on a logical evaluation.
“I am sure that they will be modifying all of their ranking systems …” ?!? Have you ever read a note or reply from fuzz folks to any criticism or promotional suggestion from a member and even from very active members like yourself, D* and so? Why we have to raise a question and set the answers on our own with no and absolutely no positive changes? When we’re going to see that temporary problems are permanently removed? It seems more like opening one’s heart to close friends what we going through than systematic discussions. May be they never read us, I don’t really know. Knowing the TCC and his great ability of logical judgment, analysis and commenting right from wrong, I personally expected strong support from dear TCC for such a genius test which is a clear weak point in the system.
FH, I strongly believe that what you did will bring some positive changes to the system as I think sooner or later the fuzz folks will review us and our comments.
And dear D* I love the honest feeling you posted: You know that I do love fuzz very much AND I DONT WANT THIS PLACE TO DIE!!!!!
Now I wish to request you all to have a look at the link below and see the progress of this cool place which I do love and feel to be belonging to it and then tell us and the fuzz folks if we shall maintain this level or do something to promote this art house;
